As long time backcountry skiers my wife and I have always been excited to share the exploration and fun of back country skiing with our children. We got just that chance recently with a late season blast of snow and a hut trip we’d planned with our friends. Check out one of our best yet ski adventures.

Our adventure lifestyle is sometimes an extension of our father’s. I couldn’t have been more than 4 years old. Not only was my father quite the outdoorsman back then, but he loved gardening and had quite the green thumb. He also loved hiking and exploring.

The femur splint, blood clotting packets and dressings in my pack were heavy but in my view essential. As were detailed plans for the nearest helicopter LZ — and the pilot we’d put on retainer. That’s the way daddy-angst works…

There is nothing more special as a parent then sharing what you love with your kids. You might be a musician molding your boy’s fingers to a fretboard for the first time, or a poet slicing and dicing words till your girl’s smile splits her face like an ocean sunrise, or a farmer checking your crop in an earthy hands-on way that grabs that primal part of your kid’s core.
