As long time backcountry skiers my wife and I have always been excited to share the exploration and fun of back country skiing with our children. There is nothing more special as a parent then sharing what you love with your kids. You might be a musician molding your boy’s fingers to a fretboard for the first time, or a poet slicing and dicing words till your girl’s smile splits her face like an ocean sunrise, or a farmer checking your crop in an earthy hands-on way that grabs that primal part of your kid’s core.

Chapin told me he wanted to ski a 14er for his birthday (he turns 11 at the end of the month), so Big John Gloor and I meandered up Quandary this past Saturday and we ended up snagging Cristo Couloir in windy and creamy conditions.
