Hey Folks!
Pretty exciting day today with the individual ski mountaineering race. First, winds were really high and the course had to be changed…and it started late. I thought they were going to give us a bit of a warning (like 15-30 mins) before the start, so I was loading up on energy food. We got about 5 minutes notice and all the food I ate gave me stomach cramps…so I was feeling slow. Maybe I went too hard in the teams race as well. Chris Kroger was having a great race and thought he might have broken the top ten.
Now the good part!!! About 2/3rds of the way into the race, competitors triggered 2 moderate sized avalanches in two separate areas. In one avy, I think about 10 racers went for a ride! Luckily, I think only one person was injured. Due to this, the race was stopped and the individual race was cancelled.
Kind of a bummer overall, but I was feeling slow so…whatever I guess. One last race tomorrow…the team relay. Sort of a sprint for each person.
Getting psyched for next week, I think it is going to dump, so we will be skiing powder.
Off to the race briefing and then a dinner with all the North Americans (us and Canada).
Hope all is well…talk to you soon!!!
